Dog friendly places to eat in the Cotswolds
We’re really spoilt for choice in The Cotswolds for dog friendly places to eat and drink. The vast majority of pubs will happily welcome you with your four legged friends and many of the cafe’s do too.
Following on from our guide to dog friendly places to eat in Cheltenham, we’ve pulled together a list of some of our favourite places to eat in The Cotswolds.
Search on the map below or read on for a little bit more about each place. This list includes country pubs, brunch spots and perfect post walk coffee spots so hopefully there’s something for everyone!
THE NEW INN, COLN ST ALDWYNS
A beautiful seventeenth century Cotswolds coaching inn from the local foodie duo Baz & Fred. Dogs are welcomed in all areas of the pub and this is one of our favourites for a laid back lunch after walking to Bibury and back. The burgers are AMAZING.

THE HIVE, STOW ON THE WOLD
We generally find Stow pretty limited on the dog friendly dining front, but The Hive welcome dogs in the front part of their restaurant. A lovely spot for brunch, lunch or just a coffee with delicious locally sourced produce.
THE HALFWAY, KINETON
Dog friendly throughout, we think the Halfway is pretty much the perfect pub with cosy nooks, fantastic food and a warm welcome. Try the ham hock or the pie and you won’t be disappointed!

THE SWAN, SWINBROOK
On the banks of the River Windrush just a few miles from Burford, The Swan Inn is a welcoming pub serving delicious food, with a great beer garden in summer too! Do watch out for the free roaming bantams though! We love a walk down the Windrush with the dogs before a big lunch here.

THE STUMP, FOSS CROSS
The original set up from Baz & Fred (we’ve included The New Inn on this list too!), The Stump is the place to go if you’re after a laid back vibe with delicious homemade pizzas and of course a warm dog friendly welcome.

THE WOOLPACK INN, SLAD
An independent local pub for over 300 years set in the beautiful Slad valley, The Woolpack used to be the local of writer Laurie Lee and has such a higgledy piggledy charm about it that it’s really worth a visit if you’re in the area. Why not work up an appetite on the 5 mile Laurie Lee Wildlife Way before settling in for lunch or a pint. Be warned though, the Laurie Lee way has some very steep hills!

THE CHEQUERS, CHURCHILL
A welcoming Cotswold stone pub that sits in the heart of the Oxfordshire village of Churchill. A perfect mix of traditional pub with a good dose of modern decor and of course great food! Dogs will be warmly welcomed with treats by the team. Perfect to while away a few hours after a countryside walk.
THE SWAN INN, ASCOTT
This 16th-century timbered inn, complete with inglenook fireplaces, reclaimed wooden floors, and a large central bar is another in the small group of pubs that includes The Chequers above and The Double Red Duke. All three offer excellent food in a lovely pub environment.If you’re lucky, you might score the best seat in the house in the armchairs by the fire – perfect to cosy up after a long dog walk!

THE VICTORIA INN, EASTLEACH
Sitting in the prettiest of Cotswold villages, The Victoria is a lovely dog friendly pub with open fires and cosy nooks to settle into in winter and a great sunny garden in summer. Eastleach is a little off the beaten track so it never seems to get many tourists, but it’s definitely worth a visit for its display of daffodils in the spring – they line the footpath alongside the River Leach.

THE BELL INN, LANGFORD
The Bell pub offers a modern country pub feel, with a hearty, classic British menu with the addition of wood fired dishes. Another lovely Cotswold pub with open fires for the dogs to snooze next to after a long walk.
SMITH’S, BOURTON ON THE WATER
With so many food options in Bourton, we’ve gone a bit rogue choosing a burger joint but it would honestly be our go to for a stop off here. The burgers are great and you have some lovely local walks before an indulgent lunch – we’d recommend heading for Greystones to escape the Bourton crowds!

DUNKERTON’S TAP ROOM, CHELTENHAM
This is technically also on our ultimate guide to the best dog friendly places to eat in Cheltenham post, but seeing as it’s technically on the outskirts of Cheltenham, we thought we’d better pop it on this guide too!
It has become a bit of a local institution and a firm favourite for local dog owners popping in before or after their weekend walks. It’s all about the food here, home to some of the very best foodie pop ups in Cheltenham. Take your pick from The Woozy Pig and their legendary burgers, Bella Mia for delicious sourdough pizzas or Bombay Street Food Co for authentic Indian street food dishes.
JOLLY NICE FARMSHOP, STROUD
If there’s only one farm shop you should visit in The Cotswolds, this should be it. Jolly Nice is a multi award-winning Farmshop, Cafe, Drive Through takeaway and Bar open every day. Cosy up next to the log fire inside their locally crafted traditional yurt and pick from coffee, cakes, burgers, toasties, salads and more before a wander in the farm shop.
BLOCKLEY VILLAGE CAFE, BLOCKLEY
Blockley is such an underrated Cotswold village, full of stunning honey coloured cottages (it features on our Must see villages in the Cotswolds list! The Village Cafe is really worth a visit if you’re in the area and dogs are welcome downstairs and on the outside seating. This place is much more than just a cafe though, they serve fabulous food all day inspired by local produce on the doorstep.

LEAF & GROUND, DURSLEY
Leaf & Ground is a lovely dog friendly cafe, garden shop and deli (no dogs in here) that offers a great option for brunch or lunch and plenty of nearby dog walks. They have 20 acres of woods, fields and footpaths on their grounds for customers to enjoy, which make for a lovely dog walk. Otherwise, The Cotswold way is accessible and can be joined just up the hill for a longer walk.
LYNWOOD & CO
Lechlade, Burford, Carterton, Cirencester, Fairford and Bampton locations.
Lynwood & Co is an independent group of cafes in the Cotswolds that serve lovely coffee in a relaxed dog friendly environment. Their bread is homemade in their Cotswold bakery along with the pastries and cakes, all other produce is locally sourced.

KNEAD BAKERY, ELKSTONE
With their original bakery in Cirencester, Knead Bakery have now opened a foodhall and eatery, offering a delicious selection of hot brunch dishes, alongside their freshly baked pastries and treats that can be found in their bakeries in Cirencester and Tetbury.
THE OLD BAKERY, WINCHCOMBE
We really love The Old Bakery for a post walk stop off in the heart of Winchcombe. Lovely food and coffee, friendly staff and always happy to welcome dogs. Perfect after a local walk – we’d highly recommend the Winchcombe Welcomes Walkers website which has a great selection of circular walking routes to choose from.Anything missing on this list that you think we should check out?
