The route

A lovely short walk at all times of year, Miserden is a gorgeous little village, the lake is truly stunning and there are plenty of swimming opportunities for dogs! We love this walk in spring, when the forest floor is covered in wild garlic.

As with most walks in The Cotswolds, it can get very muddy in winter, so wear suitable footwear!

Arriving in the Lake District late in the day, we didn’t have time for a long hike so this walk up to Orrest’s Head was perfect. Considering it’s a pretty easy walk, the views from the top are incredible! We took a route through a woodland and managed to catch a lovely sunset from the viewpoint before an easy stroll back down the main path to Windermere. Distance: 2.5 miles Time: 1 hour Difficulty: Easy Sheep Watch: None, but some in neighbouring fields Parking: Parking on laybys free for 2 hours (LA23 1WY) or park on lane opposite called Thwaites Lane Refreshments: We love The Smith in Windermere – it’s just over the road from the end of the walk with a lovely log burner to warm you up!
